HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-094-06/03/1986-COST SHARING ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES U S DEPT OF ENERGY WESTERN AREA POWER ADMIN RESOLUTION 86- 94 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY (WESTERN AREA POWER ADMINISTRATION) FOR COST SHARING WITH THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS LIGHT AND UTILITY ECONOMIC ANALYSES FOR CONSERVATION AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES WHEREAS, the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) of the U.S. Department of Energy solicited cost sharing proposals on the conservation and renewable energy technologies and development projects which will enhance WAPA's technical assistance to its customers; and WHEREAS, the cost-sharing proposals should further WAPA's goals of: 1) increasing efficiencies in the use of electrical energy; 2) encouraging the development of renewable energy resources where economically feasible; and 3) reducing United States dependence upon imported energy; and WHEREAS, the Light and Power Utility of the City of Fort Collins desires to investigate technologies and energy uses in order to control the rates charged to its customers and to provide enhanced service; and WHEREAS, the Light and Power Utility submitted a cost sharing proposal to WAPA for a Feasibility Study for the Use of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) in Controlling Peak Demand (Study) , to investigate Utility control of UPS systems to limit peak electrical demand and to analyze a method of providing a higher quality level of electrical energy; and WHEREAS, the estimated cost of the study is twelve thousand four hundred five dollars ($12,405.00) ; and WHEREAS, the U . S . Department of Energy Western Area Power Administration has reviewed the proposal submitted by the Light and Power Utility as meeting its goals and has offered a cost-sharing contract to the City of Fort Collins wherein a maximum amount of six thousand two hundred two dollars ($6,202.00) would be given toward the cost of the study in exchange for the results of the study for sharing with its customers; and WHEREAS, the Light and Power Utility has sufficient funds for its share of the study. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy Western Area Power Administration whereby the cost of the Feasibility Study for the Use of Uninterruptible Power Supplies in Controlling Peak Demand of the Light and Power Utility will be shared by the Western Area Power Administration by its payment of a sum not to exceed six thousand two hundred two dollars ($6,202.00) .
