OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
DEFINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SKATEBOARDING AND
THE RECREATION DIVISION PHILOSOPHY AND ESTABLISHING THE MEANS FOR
IDENTIFYING FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR SKATEBOARDING FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the skateboarders in the community have requested assistance from
the City Council to provide a skateboarding area; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has directed staff to review the general position
of skateboarding within the Recreation Division Philosophy; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has directed staff to research the viability of
the City's involvement in providing skateboarding facilities; and
WHEREAS, staff has prepared a report that reviews the position of
skateboarding within the Recreation Division Philosophy and that identifies
several skateboard facility options.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
as follows:
Section 1 . That skateboarding is an activity that fits the Recreation
Division philosophy, but not at a high priority level ; attracts a special public
whose activities are very focused; serves a small but vital population; and
compares to activities such as BMX bicycle motocross, horseshoes, disc golf, and
archery, for which the City has provided outdoor facilities in various locations
throughout the City.
Section 2. That funding for skateboarding facilities in the City will be
dealt with through the City's budget process, and such funding will compete with
other special interest requests.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort
Collins held this 19th day of March, A.D. 1991 .
