HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-093-06/07/1994-NCWCD ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK WATER RIGHTS WILDERNESS DESIGNATION RESOLUTION 94-93 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS STATING THE CITY'S POSITION ON THE PROPOSED WILDERNESS DESIGNATION OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK WHEREAS, Congressman Skaggs has introduced a bill which would enact the "Rocky Mountain National Park Wilderness Act of 1994" ("the Act") ; and WHEREAS, this Act would designate as wilderness a total of 240,650 acres in four separate areas of Rocky Mountain National Park ("the Park") ; and WHEREAS, designating the Park a wilderness area is consistent with current park management practices; and WHEREAS, it is important to protect the special resources the Park offers; and WHEREAS, the City recognizes that surrounding communities depend on water and water facilities in the Park to ensure continued prosperity; and WHEREAS, the City receives water from the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, which owns water rights originating in the Park and water facilities in the Park. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1 . That the Council supports designating the Park as a wilderness area, provided this designation does not impair the water rights or facilities of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, the City of Fort Collins or other communities. Section 2. That the Council urges sponsors of the Act to continue to work with the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and affected communities to resolve any concerns with regard to water rights or facilities which may arise from the proposed wilderness designation.
