HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-092-06/07/1994-POUDRE R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT TRANSFORT YOUTH FARES RESOLUTION 94-92 OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS ELIMINATING YOUTH FARES ON TRANSFORT WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins operates a transit system for residents of Fort Collins, Colorado, known as "Transfort" ; and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Council of the City of Fort Collins to encourage cooperation between the City and Poudre R-1 School District and encourage transit ridership among young people in the community by eliminating youth fares on Transfort; WHEREAS, persons under the age of eighteen have been shown to be more "transit dependent" than other classes of person and more amenable to accepting public transit as a viable alternative means of transportation; and WHEREAS, the increased use of Transfort by youth would substantially reduce the number of vehicular trips per day that the City would otherwise experience, thereby resulting in reduced traffic congestion and air pollution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that all fares charged on the City's Transfort transit system for individuals under the age of eighteen (18) shall be eliminated as of June 9, 1994.
