OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING WITH LARIMER COUNTY AND
THE UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE
FOR A NATIONAL RECREATION AREA STUDY
WHEREAS, the Congress has mandated that a study be conducted to
determine whether a portion of the Cache La Poudre River should be
designated as a National Recreation Area; and
WHEREAS, the Congress has further provided that the United States
Forest Service shall provide grants and technical assistance to the City in
the conduct of a study regarding the designation of an 18.5-mile portion of
the Cache La Poudre River as a National Recreation Area; and
WHEREAS, the City, Larimer County and the United States Forest Service
have developed a Memorandum of Understanding defining the roles and
responsibilities of each party in the preparation of said study; and
WHEREAS, Article II, Section 16 of the Charter of the City authorizes
the Council , by resolution, to enter into contracts with other governmental
bodies for cooperative or joint activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the Mayor be, and he hereby is, authorized to execute a
Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Forest Service and
Larimer County for the purpose of conducting a study to determine whether a
portion of the Cache La Poudre River should be designated as a National
Recreation Area, utilizing a grant from the United States Forest Service in
the sum of approximately $75,000, and City staff time with a value of
approximately $25,000.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of
Fort Collins held this 16th day of February, A.D. 1988.
