HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-130-09/04/1990-TOBACCO VENDING MACHINES RESOLUTION 90-130 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS DIRECTING STAFF TO PROPOSE LOCAL LEGISLATION TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS THROUGH VENDING MACHINES AND SUPPORTING FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO REGULATE THE SALE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS THROUGH VENDING MACHINES WHEREAS, many scientific studies have documented the adverse effects of tobacco products on human health; and WHEREAS, Section 18-13-121 , C.R.S. prohibits the sale of tobacco products to minors in the State of Colorado; and WHEREAS, the sale of tobacco products through automatic vending machines placed in locations easily accessible to the public facilitates the purchase of tobacco products by minors; and WHEREAS, citizens of Fort Collins have expressed concern about the purchase and use of tobacco products by minors. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1 . That the City Manager and City Attorney are hereby directed to research and propose local legislation to prohibit the sale of tobacco products through vending machines placed in locations which are accessible to minors. Section 2. That the City of Fort Collins hereby endorses the concept of prohibiting the sale of tobacco products through vending machines placed in locations which are accessible to minors and encourages federal legislators to support legislation to effect this change.
