HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-109-07/17/1990-DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY FUNDING HAZARDOUS MATERIAL RESPONSE CAPABILITY STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION 90-109 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO PARTICIPATE IN AN EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE THE STATE OF COLORADO AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR ENHANCED HAZARDOUS MATERIAL RESPONSE CAPABILITY WHEREAS, much of the transport of hazardous materials is involved in interstate transportation of such material ; and WHEREAS, the municipalities along the I-25 corridor have sustained the initial and continuing cost of providing a hazardous material response capability; and WHEREAS, the cost of maintaining a hazardous materials response capable of effectively interceding in a hazardous materials incident costs local governments several million dollars per year; and WHEREAS, Poudre Fire Authority spends $40,000 per year to maintain hazardous material response capability; and WHEREAS, additional federal requirements will affect the training and equipment needs for hazardous materials response; and WHEREAS, shipment of nuclear waste along the I-25 corridor puts additional strain on hazardous material response and will require additional training. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Mayor is authorized to participate in an effort to encourage the State of Colorado and the Department of Energy to provide funding to enhance and provide training and equipment to effectively intercede in both hazardous material and nuclear waste incidents.
