HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-100-07/03/1990-BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS ELIMINATION ALTERNATE POSITION ESTABLISHING POLICY RESOLUTION 90- 100 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS ESTABLISHING A POLICY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF ALTERNATE POSITIONS ON BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins currently has ten boards and commissions which are composed of both regular and alternate positions; and WHEREAS, the Council wishes to discontinue the practice of appointing alternate members to the City's boards and commissions, so as to eliminate any distinction in the status of boards and commissions members; and WHEREAS, the Council believes it would be in the best interest of the City to accomplish this change over a period of time by "phasing out" existing alternate positions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1 . That alternate positions on boards and commissions shall be phased out over the next 12 months, with all alternate memberships eliminated no later than July 1, 1991 . Section 2. That the Council liaison assigned to each board or commission which currently has alternate positions shall make a recommendation for changes in the composition of the board or commission to which he or she is assigned, in order to achieve the eventual elimination of alternate positions. Section 3. That, at no time, shall elimination of an alternate position result in the termination of any individual 's membership on a board or commission. Section 4. That upon elimination of all alternate positions, but no later than July 1, 1991, the City Clerk shall submit for Council 's consideration such ordinances amending such provisions of the Code as may be necessary to reflect the deletion of alternate positions from all City boards and commissions.
