HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-045-03/03/1992-DECLARATION NATIONAL WATER HERITAGE AREA POUDRE RIVER STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS YEAR OF THE RIVER RESOLUTION 92-45 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS SUPPORTING THE MAYOR'S DECLARATION OF 1992 AS THE "YEAR OF THE RIVER" WHEREAS, on January 7, 1992, in the "State of the City" address, Mayor Kirkpatrick declared 1992 as the "Year of the River" ; and WHEREAS, Resolution 91-64 was adopted by Council to direct pursuit of federal designation of the Cache La Poudre River as a National Water Heritage Area; and WHEREAS, Resolution 91-99 which adopted the Council 's Policy Work Plan for 1991-1993 also identified the importance of pursuing federal designation of the Cache La Poudre River as a National Water Heritage Area; and WHEREAS, the City is currently engaged in many other river-related work items including stormwater master planning of the river channel and floodplain, river trail completion, floodplain and riparian habitat open land acquisitions, and other environmental monitoring and management activities; and WHEREAS, these City projects are consistent with Council goals adopted in Resolution 91-99 to continue the City's commitment to the vitality of the downtown area and to enhance the environmental quality of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1. That a community theme providing a unifying concept for diverse public and private activities relating to the river will encourage greater awareness of and involvement in natural and cultural values in community life. Section 2. That the Council joins the Mayor in declaring 1992 as the "Year of the River" .
