HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-119-07/19/1988-LOCATION TOURIST WELCOME CENTER RESOLUTION 88-119 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF A NEW TOURIST WELCOME CENTER NORTH OF FORT COLLINS WHEREAS, the state Tourism Board wants to open 5 or 6 new Colorado Welcome Centers across the state to promote tourism; and WHEREAS, a 1984 state highway traffic count shows approximately 35% more traffic entering the state from north Interstate 25 (I-25) than from any other highway or direction; and WHEREAS, the state wants to open a Northern Colorado center along I-25 near the Wyoming border; and WHEREAS, a study conducted by Colorado State University found that welcome center users spent 24% more per day than non-users; and WHEREAS, a tourist welcome center located on I-25 would be a financially lucrative addition to the northern Colorado region; and WHEREAS, a center located north of Fort Collins should not have a detrimental economic effect on Loveland or Greeley, but a location south of Fort Collins would have a detrimental effect on Fort Collins. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the City of Fort Collins encourages the location of a new Northern Colorado State Welcome Center along Interstate 25 between Fort Collins and the Wyoming state line.
