HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-092-07/07/1987-URBAN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY RESOLUTION 87-92 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS RECOGNIZING FORT COLLINS AS AN URBAN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the value of urban wildlife as an important factor in the quality of life enjoyed by Fort Collins residents; WHEREAS, the City Council has established policies and programs designed to protect and provide for the needs of urban wildlife; and WHEREAS, the City Council has charged the Division of Natural Resources with the responsibility for identifying and monitoring protection of urban wildlife habitat; and WHEREAS, the City's Natural Resources Advisory Board has an identified goal of advising the Council and the Division of Natural Resources in the definition and identification of resource areas such as wetlands, wildlife habitats, desirable or unique natural vegetation, and critical resource areas; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes and applauds the efforts of property owners who landscape their properties so as to provide for the needs of urban wildlife. WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to continue to encourage the protection of urban wildlife and its habitat in Fort Collins. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1 . That recognition of Fort Collins as an urban wildlife sanctuary is desired to formally identify Fort Collins as a municipality which provides for the needs of urban wildlife and recognizes the value of urban wildlife as a component of quality of life. Section 2. That protection of habitat is an effective way to provide for the needs of urban wildlife in Fort Collins. Section 3. That the City Council supports existing policies and programs which provide for the needs of urban wildlife.
