OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AMENDING THE POLICY STATEMENT ON ETHICS
FOR MEMBERS OF BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins has adopted a "Policy
Statement on Ethics, " which is contained in the City of Fort Collins Boards
and Commissions Manual and establishes guidelines for the ethical conduct
of members of City boards and commissions; and
WHEREAS, Paragraph 6 of the Policy Statement on Ethics provides: "A
member of a Board or Commission should refrain from representing any person
or interest for compensation before the City Council or any Board or
Commission of the City" ; and
WHEREAS, the foregoing policy statement unnecessarily restricts members
of Boards and Commissions from their representation of others before the
City Council or other Boards or Commissions of the City on matters which do
not pertain to the activities of the Board or Commission upon which such
member serves. As a result of this restriction, otherwise qualified and
experienced persons are limited in serving on Boards and Commissions, and
the City loses a valuable potential resource.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the Policy Statement on Ethics for members of Boards and
Commissions, Policy Statement 6, is amended in its entirety to read as
follows:
"6. A member of a Board or Commission should refrain from
representing any person or interest for compensation before the
City Council or any Board or Commission of the City on any matter
which pertains to the function or activity of the Board or
Commission on which such member serves. "
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of
Fort Collins held this 5th day of May, A.D. 1987.
