HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-059-04/21/1987-CONTINUATION COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS LARIMER WELD REGIONAL POLICY RESOLUTION 87-59 STATING THE POLICY OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS REGARDING THE CONTINUATION OF THE LARIMER-WELD REGIONAL COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS AND ITS PROGRAMS WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins has been an active member and supporter of the Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Governments; and WHEREAS, regional planning and cooperation are critical to efficient and effective government; and WHEREAS, many local governments have withdrawn from membership in the Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Governments, including Larimer and Weld Counties and the City of Ault; and WHEREAS, the Cities of Greeley and Fort Lupton have indicated their intention to withdraw; and WHEREAS, the Larimer-Weld Regional Council of Governments is considering its future due to the withdrawal of these communities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the policy of the City of Fort Collins is as follows: Section 1. The City of Fort Collins supports the concept and principle of regional planning. Section 2. The action of other governments to withdraw from LWRCOG makes it impossible for that organization to continue to be a viable regional planning organization. Section 3. The Larimer Weld Council of Government should disband. Section 4. It is in the interest of the City of Fort Collins to pursue a new MPO Transportation Planning Program. Section 5. It is in the interest of the City of Fort Collins to work with the committee established by Larimer County and other interested parties to develop a new 208 Water Quality Program organization which fairly represents the City's interests. Section 6. The staff is authorized to pursue this policy and to communicate its content to the other governmental entities in the Larimer-Weld County region.
