HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-047-03/17/1987-PAYMENT OF USE TAX TAX AMNESTY PERIOD RESOLUTION 87-47 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AUTHORIZING A TAX AMNESTY PERIOD FOR PROFESSIONALS RELATING TO PAYMENT OF USE TAX ON EQUIPMENT AND OTHER TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY WHEREAS, the Code of the City of Fort Collins imposes a use tax on the use, distribution and consumption of tangible personal property which applies to property used in businesses and practices located within Fort Collins; and WHEREAS, a small percentage of professionals doing business in Fort Collins are currently remitting use tax as required by the City Code; and WHEREAS, the authorization of a tax amnesty period for professionals would greatly facilitate the collection of such taxes and the sales/use tax licensing of such professionals where applicable; and WHEREAS, the Finance Department staff recommends that a tax amnesty period be offered to all professionals allowing for the submission of applicable use taxes without penalties or interest for the past three (3) year period and such recommendation was approved by the City's Finance Committee on February 4, 1987. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Finance Department is hereby authorized to offer a tax amnesty period to professionals which period would begin this spring and last for approximately seven (7) weeks. During the tax amnesty period, individuals and companies voluntarily remitting the applicable use tax would not be required to pay penalties or interest relating to such taxes. Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins held this 17th day of March, A.D. 1987. ATTEST: City Clerk '
