HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-025-02/20/1996-CITY OF GREELEY EASEMENT EXCHANGE OF LAND JOE WRIGHT RESERVOIR ROCKWELL RANCH ROOSEVELT NATIONAL FOR RESOLUTION 96-25 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO ACCOMPLI H AN EXCHANGE OF LAND JOINTLY OWNED BY THE CITIES OF GREELY AND FORT COLLINS FOR LAND OWNED BY THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT N IN THE ROOSEVELT NATIONAL FOREST THAT IS LOCATED UNDER AD AROUND EXISTING RESERVOIRS OF THE CITIES OF GREELEY AND FOR COLLINS WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins ("Fort Collins"), together ith the City of Greeley ("Greeley"), currently owns approximately nine hundred and twenty (9 ) acres of land commonly known as the Rockwell Ranch (the"Rockwell Ranch"), which land i surrounded by the Roosevelt National Forest; and WHEREAS, the Rockwell Ranch was originally acqui d by Fort Collins and Greeley as a future water storage site; and WHEREAS, Fort Collins and Greeley no longer eed the Rockwell Ranch as a future water storage site; and WHEREAS,currently,Fort Collins owns a d operates the Joe Wright Reservoir and Greeley owns and operates other reservoirs (hat are loc ted upon land of the United States Government within Roosevelt National Forest; and WHEREAS,Fort Collins' right to aintain the Joe Wright Reservoir upon the United States Government's land current exists under a fifty-year easement granted on January 6, 1995, to Fort Collins by the United States Forest Se ice ("the Forest Service"); and WHEREAS, if Fort Colli owned the land under and around the Joe Wright Reservoir, it would secure for Fort Collins th permanent right to maintain and operate the Joe Wright Reservoir; and WHEREAS, the oosevelt National Forest would be enhanced by placing the Rockwell Ranch under the owners ip of the United States Government to be managed by the Forest Service as part of the Ro/tedStates National Forest; and WHEREederal legislation has been proposed by Congressman Wayne Allard, to authorize the UJ Government to transfer to Fort Collins ownership of the land under and around the Jo Wright Reservoir and to transfer to Greeley ownership of the land under and around a number o its reservoirs, in exchange for Fort Collins and Greeley transferring ownership of the Rockwel anch to the United States Government. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT C LINS, that it supports passage of the proposed federal legislation to accomplish the exchange the Rockwell Ranch for the United States Government land in the Roosevelt National Forest that is under and around the Joe Wright Reservoir; and in doing so hereby expresses gratitude and appreciation to Congressman Wayne Allard, for sponsoring the proposed legislation.
