OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
REPEALING RESOLUTION 94-156 AND
REVISING THE NAME OF THE NEW SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER
WHEREAS, in 1989, the citizens of Fort Collins voted to fund the
construction of a new Senior Citizen Center; and
WHEREAS, the new Senior Citizen Center is presently being constructed and
is anticipated to open in December of 1994; and
WHEREAS, the City held a contest to name the new Senior Citizen Center; and
WHEREAS, the City established a committee to select the name for the new
Senior Citizen Center from the entries received; and
WHEREAS, the committee selected the name "Foothills Oasis" and submitted
this recommendation to the City Senior Advisory Board; and
WHEREAS, the Senior Advisory Board modified the recommended name to
"Foothills Oasis: Fort Collins Senior Center" and recommended this name to the
City Council ; and
WHEREAS, in Resolution 94-156, the City Council adopted the Board's
recommendation and named the facility the "Foothills Oasis: Fort Collins Senior
Center"; and
WHEREAS, since the adoption of this name for the new Senior Citizen Center,
there has been community opposition to this name; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Council 's request, the Senior Advisory Board has
reconsidered their recommended name for the facility and the Board has now voted
to recommend that the name of the new Senior Citizen Center be changed from
"Foothills Oasis: Fort Collins Senior Center" to "Fort Collins Senior Center";
and
WHEREAS, the Council approves the Senior Advisory Board's recommendation
that the name of the facility be changed from "Foothills Oasis: Fort Collins
Senior Center" to "Fort Collins Senior Center."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
as follows:
Section 1 . That Resolution 94-156 of the Council of the City of Fort
Collins which approved the name Foothills Oasis: Fort Collins Senior Center" for
the City's new Senior Citizen Center is hereby repealed.
Section 2. That the name of the City's new Senior Citizen Center shall be
"Fort Collins Senior Center."
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort
Collins held this 15th day of November, A.D. 1994.
