HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-165-10/04/1994-AMENDMENT 13 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT LIMITED GAMING II MANITOU SPRINGS PUBLIC AIRPORTS RESOLUTION 94-165 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS STATING THE CITY'S OPPOSITION TO AMENDMENT 13, LIMITED GAMING II-MANITOU SPRINGS AND PUBLIC AIRPORTS WHEREAS, Amendment 13, known as "Limited Gaming II-Manitou Springs and Public Airports," is a proposed amendment to the Colorado Constitution that the voters will consider at the November 8, 1994 general election; and WHEREAS, Amendment 13 authorizes limited gaming in the City of Manitou Springs, without a local option vote by the citizens of Manitou Springs; and WHEREAS, eighty-eight percent of the voting citizens of Manitou Springs opposed limited gaming in their city at the November 1993 election; and and WHEREAS, the Manitou Springs City Council unanimously opposes Amendment 13; WHEREAS, Amendment 13 authorizes slot machines at airports upon approval of the airport's governing body and without a local option vote by the citizens within the airport district; and WHEREAS, the Fort Collins City Council opposes limited gaming except where it is authorized by a vote of the citizens within the jurisdiction where such gaming will occur. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, that the Council opposes Amendment 13 and urges voters to become informed about the effects of this measure on their local community and its effect on representative democracy in Colorado.
