OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
SUPPORTING THE NORTH FRONT RANGE TRANSPORTATION &
AIR QUALITY PLANNING COUNCIL EFFORTS TO CONDUCT
A JOINT PLANNING STUDY OF A REGIONAL
BIKEWAY SYSTEM
WHEREAS, with the passage of the Intermodal Surface Transportation
Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) , federal funding has become available (through the
ISTEA Enhancement and Surface Transportation Programs) for the establishment of
regional bikeway systems; and
WHEREAS, in order to compete with other areas of the state for said funds,
such bikeway projects must be developed through so-called "Metropolitan Planning
Organizations, " such as the North Front Range Transportation & Air Quality
Planning Council ("the NFRT & AQPC") ; and
WHEREAS, the NFRT & AQPC, as well as the Colorado State Transportation
Commissioner, have expressed enthusiastic support for the pursuit of a regional
bikeway system that would connect Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins has determined that such
a bikeway system would be of substantial benefit to the citizens of the City of
Fort Collins.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
that the Council strongly supports the efforts of the NFRT & AQPC in conducting
a joint planning study of a regional bikeway system for the purpose of connecting
Fort Collins, Loveland and Greeley.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort
Collins held this 19th day of May, A.D. 1992.
