OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AMENDING THE GUIDELINES FOR THE CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
AND PROGRAMMING ACCOUNT (FORT FUND)
WHEREAS, pursuant to Article W of Chapter 25 of the City Code, the City imposes a
lodging tax on the furnishing of any lodging accommodation in the City; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 25-244 of the City Code, twenty-five percent (25%) of the
revenue received from the lodging tax is to be utilized for cultural development and programming
activities; and
WHEREAS, the City utilizes revenue from the lodging tax for cultural development and
programming activities through the "Fort Fund" program; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has approved guidelines for the Fort Fund program (the
"Guidelines") which are on file with the City Clerk; and
WHEREAS, the Guidelines define the types of events which are not eligible for Fort Fund
funding; and
WHEREAS, the City's Cultural Resources Board, at their meeting of March 22, 1995, voted
to recommend that the Council amend the Guidelines to prohibit funding for any event in which the
net proceeds or profit from the event is donated by the sponsor to another organization and/or
individual; and
WHEREAS,the Cultural Resources Board is recommending this change because they do not
believe it is appropriate to use Fort Fund funding to generate monies that may be passed on to
organizations that do not use the funds for cultural development and programming activities.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the Guidelines for the Cultural Development and Programming Account(Fort Fund)
are hereby amended by the addition of the following sentence after the last item in the Overview
Section, under the phrase "The following will not be considered for funding:"
"Any event in which the event sponsor donates, or intends to donate,
the net proceeds or profit from the event to another organization
and/or individual."
