HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-141-09/21/1993-PUBLIC ACCESS POLICY RESOLUTION 93-141 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS ADOPTING A PUBLIC ACCESS POLICY WHEREAS, the City Council has recognized the need to improve citizen access to City information and services; and WHEREAS, the City Council Public Access Committee and City staff have created a Public Access Policy and recommend that this policy be adopted by the City Council ; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Fort Collins for the City to adopt a Public Access Policy in order to better provide public access to City and community information and services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Public Access Policy attached as Exhibit "A" and incorporated herein by this reference is hereby adopted as the Public Access Policy for the City of Fort Collins. Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Coun ' o the City Fo t Collins held this 21st day of September, A.D. 1993. yor ATTEST: City Clerk EXHIBIT A PUBLIC ACCESS POLICY The City of Fort Collins government enjoys a reputation as a leader and innovator. This leadership has made the City a desirable place to live and work. The challenge of this decade is to preserve that reputation and sustain fiscal health and responsibility. Public access to information & services for Fort Collins area residents is a developing area for the City. This policy is intended to guide the City as it develops its electronic services. The City will seize opportunities to use technology to increase public access to City and community services & information that will improve: - the cost benefit of providing new or existing services - the availability of government - the accessibility of government - the accountability of government - public policy development - make a positive impact on our environment The City leadership and staff will : - Collaborate with other local entities seeking to provide electronic resources and services through partnerships and facilitative leadership. - Encourage infrastructure investments in our community. - Ensure that the responsibility for maintaining information remains with the information providers. - Minimize risk by working with stable, proven technology, products, and companies whenever possible and appropriate. - Structure our projects and partnerships to be customer and demand driven, not technology driven. - Focus our resources on creating, evolving, and maintaining usable and sustainable electronic assets.
