OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN
INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES
GEOLOGICAL SURVEY FOR THE PROVISION OF WATER
QUALITY AND FLOW DATA IN 1997
WHEREAS, the City operates and maintains the Joe Wright Reservoir, a high mountain
reservoir on Joe Wright Creek, a tributary of the Cache La Poudre River ("the Poudre River"); and
WHEREAS, the City wastewater discharge activities may impact the water characteristics
of the Poudre River; and
WHEREAS, acquiring information regarding the flow and quality of waters associated with
the Joe Wright Reservoir and acquiring information regarding any impact the City's wastewater
discharges have on the Poudre River, are essential for the City's water resources planning and
management activities; and
WHEREAS,for the aforesaid reasons, the Council of the City of Fort Collins has determined
that it is in the best interest of the citizens of the City that the water quality and quantity monitoring
program heretofore conducted jointly with the United States Geological Survey be continued for the
calendar year 1998; and
WHEREAS, Article 11, Section 16 of the City Charter provides that the Council may enter
into agreements with other governmental bodies for the performance of cooperative or joint
activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CH'Y OF FORT
COLLINS as follows:
Section 1. That the Mayor be, and hereby is, authorized to enter into an agreement with the
United States Geological Survey for the continuation of the water quality and quantity monitoring
program for the 1997 water year, in consideration of the payment by the City of a sum not to exceed
Forty-Four Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty Dollars ($44,460).
Section 2. That the Mayor may, if deems it to be in the interest of the City, extend the
Agreement one (1) additional year and make modifications to the Agreement, or any extension
thereof, as necessary to protect the City's interest and safeguard the City's water quality and supply.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Fort Collins held this
7th day of January, A.D. 1997.
