HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-039-03/18/1997-ART IN PUBLIC PLACES COMMISSION ARTIST FAIRBROOKE POND PROJECT HABITAT ENHANCEMENT SCULPTURES STORM RESOLUTION 97-39 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS APPROVING EXPENDITURES FROM THE ART IN PUBLIC PLACES RESERVE ACCOUNT IN THE STORM DRAINAGE FUND FOR THE COMMISSION OF AN ARTIST TO CREATE HABITAT ENHANCEMENT SCULPTURES IN CONNECTION WITH THE FAIRBROOKE POND PROJECT WHEREAS, Section 23-303 of the City Code, which was added to the Code in 1995, established the Art in Public Places Reserve Account for use in the acquisition or leasing of works of art, maintenance,repair or display of works of art, and administrative expenses related to the Art in Public Places Program,in accordance with the Art in Public Places Guidelines adopted by Council in Ordinance No. 20, 1995 (the "Guidelines"); and WHEREAS,the Fairbrooke Pond Project(the"Project") is a storm drainage project and has been identified as an appropriate site for use of funds from the Storm Drainage Canal Importation Basin Project that have been set aside in the Art in Public Places Reserve Account in the Storm Drainage Fund for public art; and WHEREAS,the Art in Public Places Board (the "Board") evaluated proposed works of art in a competitive proposal process based on the Guidelines; and WHEREAS,based on that evaluation, the Board selected the proposal of artist Lynne Hull to create habitat enhancement sculptures in the vicinity of Fairbrooke Pond on the corner of Taft Hill Road and Prospect Road at its February 20, 1997 meeting; and WHEREAS, the estimated cost to create the proposed habitat enhancement sculptures, including administration,commission of the artist,contingency and maintenance of the piece is Four Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty Dollars ($4,280); and WHEREAS,adequate funds are available in the Art in Public Places Reserve Account in the Storm Drainage Fund for 1997 to provide for the commission of Hull to create the habitat enhancement sculptures; and WHEREAS,the Guidelines require that the Council approve the Board's selection of public art. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS,that the expenditure of up to Four Thousand Two Hundred and Eighty Dollars ($4,280) from the Art in Public Places Reserve Account in the Storm Drainage Fund for the habitat enhancement sculptures proposed by artist Lynne Hull, the conceptual design of which was selected and approved by the Art in Public Places Board on February 20, 1997, is hereby authorized.
