OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
APPROVING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATED SCULPTURE
ENTITLED "MONICA'S VISION" FROM
THE MONICA JOYCE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, Section 23-309 of the City Code requires that all works of art with a value of
$300 or more to be donated to the City for placement in a public area be accepted only with the
approval of the Art in Public Places Board(the"APP Board"), and that all such works with a value
of$10,000 or more may be accepted only with approval of the Council; and
WHEREAS, the Monica Joyce Memorial Committee (the "Committee") has proposed to
donate a memorial piece of art to the City to be placed in the Lincoln Center Terrace Sculpture
Garden; and
WHEREAS, the sculpture proposed for donation is a bronze sculpture entitled "Monica's
Vision," which will be commissioned by the Committee and sculpted by Texas artists Gene and
Rebecca Tobey; and
WHEREAS,the APP Board reviewed the proposed donation of"Monica's Vision"at its May
21, 1998, meeting, and determined that it meets the criteria for works of art and site selection set
forth in the Art in Public Places Guidelines,adopted by the Council on second reading of Ordinance
No. 47, 1998, on April 7th, 1998; and
WHEREAS, "Monica's Vision" has been appraised at an expected value of$26,000; and
WHEREAS, City staff and the APP Board have recommended that the proposed donation
of"Monica's Vision be approved.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that the donation to the City by the Monica Joyce Memorial Committee of the sculpture
"Monica's Vision,"by artists Gene and Rececca Tobey,be,and hereby is,approved for acceptance
and placement in the Lincoln Center Terrace Sculpture Garden.
Passed and adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council held this 16th day of June,A.D.
