HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-051-04/16/1996-DETENTION CENTER EVALUATION CENTER LARIMER COUNTY POLICE YOUTH OFFENDER RESOLUTION 96-51 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS STATING THE CITY COUNCIL'S SUPPORT FOR A YOUTH OFFENDER EVALUATION CENTER IN LARIMER COUNTY AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO WORK WITH LARIMER COUNTY AND OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WITHIN LARIMER COUNTY TO DEVELOP A PLAN FOR A PROPOSED FACILITY WHEREAS, Larimer County representatives are proposing to build a twelve-bed youth offender evaluation center on County-owned land near the Larimer County Detention Center; and WHEREAS,Larimer County representatives have approached the City of Fort Collins and other local governments in Larimer County asking each of them to participate with Larimer County in the development, construction and operation of such a youth offender evaluation center; and WHEREAS, because of the current lack of a local youth offender evaluation center in Larimer County, Fort Collins police officers who take a youth into custody are often taken away from their usual patrol duties for long periods of time in order to transfer custody of the youth to the appropriate person or agency; and WHEREAS,the existence of a local youth offender evaluation center would help reduce this lost patrol time and it would provide numerous other benefits to the City and its youth. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, that the City Council acknowledges the need and importance for a youth offender evaluation center to be located in Larimer County and hereby authorizes the City Manager to work with Larimer County and other local governments on developing a plan to provide such a facility, and to report back to Council concerning any plan for the financing and construction of the same.
