HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-039-03/16/1999-URGING VOTER SUPPORT FOR THE PASSAGE OF A CITY-INITIATED ORDINANCE ADOPTING A SALES AND USE TAX FOR RESOLUTION 99-39 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS URGING VOTER SUPPORT FOR THE PASSAGE OF A CITIZEN-INITIATED ORDINANCE ADOPTING A SALES AND USE TAX FOR TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS WHEREAS, on February 16, 1999, the Council of the City of Fort Collins exercised its authority under the City Charter to submit to the registered electors of the City a proposed ordinance which,if approved by the voters,would establish a thirty-six one-hundredths percent(0.36%) sales and use tax ("the Tax") for the purpose of obtaining additional revenues for a new traffic signal control system, implementation of the City's Transit Development Plan, and to fund other costs of operating the City's overall transportation system; and WHEREAS, the Tax was recommended by the City's Transportation Board, the City Manager,and a Transportation Funding Advisory Committee as being necessary to close the funding gap that now exists in the areas of transportation to be addressed by the Tax; and WHEREAS,the City Council believes that the passage of the Tax is in the best interests of the residents of the City so that the City's transportation network can keep pace with the substantial growth and development that the City has experienced over recent years; and WHEREAS,the Colorado Fair Campaign Practices Act expressly permits the Council to pass a resolution or take a position of advocacy with regard to local or state ballot issues. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that the Council hereby expresses its support for the passage of the Tax and strongly urges the electors or the City to vote in favor of the same.
