HomeMy WebLinkAbout023 - 10/18/1924 - RELATING TO THE ORGANIZATION OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT (EMERGENCY ORDINANCE) ORDINANCE NO , 1924, BEING AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE RELATIIG TO THE ORGANIZATION OF POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY Or FORT COLLINS BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS Section 1 That the Police Department of the City of Fort Collins shall be under the immediate supervision and control of the Commissioner of Public Safety and Health and Ex-Officio Mayor and said Department shall be charged with the duty under the said Commissioner of Public Safety and Health to enforce the penal laws of the State of Colorado and the ordinances of the Ci-y of Fort Collins Section 2 For the purpose of carrying on the work of said Police Department, the City Council is hereby authorized and empowered to appo_nt upon the recommendation of the Commissioner of Public Safety and Health, One (1 ) Chief of Police and such policemen and night watchmen as may be necessary for the preservation of the peace and good order, the health and safety of the citizens, and pro- tection of property and in case of emergency or public necessity the Commissioner of Public Safety and Health and Ex-Officio Mayor is authorized zo appoint, such special policemen for temporary general or special duty as he may deem advisable and necessary for the public good All policemen and night watchmen shall be under the immediate direction and control of the Chief of Police, but botn said Chief of Police and all police officers to be at all times subject to the general control and direction of the Commissioner of Public Safety and Health and Ex-Ofiicio Mayor The said Chief of Police and policemen and night watchmen shall receive such compensation as provided in the ordinance relating to salaries, and shall hold their respective offices or employment at the pleasure of the City Council upon the recommendation Safety and of the Commissioner of Public/Health Section 3 Ordinance No 4, 1888 and Ordinance No 12, 1913 and all other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict witn this ordinance are hereby repealed Section 4 In the opinion of the City Council an emergency exists for the preservation of the public health, peace and safety, and this ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication, under and by virtue of the authority contained in Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter Introduced, read at length and adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the CityCouncil this, �8 � day of October A D 1924 Commissioner of r ty and - fficio Mayor ATTEST ,.,A, .e�� City Clerk STATE OF COLORADO, ) SS COUNTY OF LARINIER ) I A J ROSENOW, City Clerk of the Cit) of Fort Collins, do hereby certify and declare that the foregoing ordinance, consisting of four (4) sections, was duly proposed and read at length at a regular meeting of the City Council neld on the /8 day of October, A D 1924, and was duly adopted and ordered published in the Fort Collins Express-Courier, a daily newspaper and the oflicial newspaper of the City of Fort Collins , by the unanimous vote of all members of the Council, as an emergency ordinance, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter and theieafter, on to-gait the o2 day of October, A D 1924, said Ordinance No X 3 was duly published in the Fort Collins Expiess- Courier, a daily newspaper published in the City of Fort Collins IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and s affixed the, seal of said City, this �' da October, A D 1924 City Clerk
