HomeMy WebLinkAbout009 - 05/22/1947 - AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 030, 1924 AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE BUILDING CODE PROVIDING RULES AND REGUL ORDINANCE NO 9 1947 BEING AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE No 30, 1924 AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE BUILDING CODE FOR THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS PROVIDING RULES AND REGULATIONS THEREUNDER, PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF, AND REPEALING AID, ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS Section 1 That Section 79 of Ordinance No 30, 1924, as amended, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following, to-wit "Section 79 Hollow Concrete Block or Tile ' All hollow concrete block or tile used for exterior, party, fire or division walls shall be as specified in this Section Concrete block or tile shall be made from Portland cement and such aggregates as sand, gravel crushed stone, cinders volcanic ash pumice, burned clay or shale, and blast furnace slag in such proportions and with such a process of manufacture that units meeting the requirements of this specification will be produced In no case shall the maximum aggregate dimension exceed one-half of the thickness of the thinnest shell or web of thefinished block The average compressive strength of five units at the time of delivery to the site shall be not less than the following Minimum Face Average Compressive Minimum Compressive Shell Thick- Strength in Pounds per Strength Permitted ness Inches Square Inch Gross Cross On Any Test Unit in Sectional Area as Laid Pounds per Square in the Wall Inch Gross Cross Sec- tional Area 1 1/4 or over 700 600 Under 1 1 4 and over 3 4 1000 800 Concrete masonry units which will be exposed to the soil or weather in the finished work (without brick, stucco or other suitable protective covering approved by the Building Inspector) shall not absorb more than fifteen (15) pounds of water per cubic foot of concrete actually contained Units which will be suitably protected from the soil or weather in the finished work need not conform to the absorption requirements of this paragraph All hollow concrete units shall meet the require- ments of the Tentative Specifications and Tests for Load- bearing Concrete Units A S T M Designation C90-34T of the American Society for Testing Materials Special concrete block or tile, in addition to meeting the requirements in this Section shall comply with the Underwriters ' Laboratories "Standard for Hollow Concrete Building Units, " dated June 8, 1932 Underwriters' Laboratories ' certificated hollow concrete building units may be considered as Special Units The Building Inspector may require inspection and testing of said block or tile at any time, the expense thereof to be paid in advance by the owner " Section 2 All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed Section 3 In the opinion of the City Council an emergency exists for the preservation of the public health peace and safety, and this ordinance shall take effect upon its passage under and by virtue of the authority contained in Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter Introduced, read at length, and adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council, at a regular meeting of the City Council, held this 22nd day of May, A D 1947 -hr 22'1 / °-4��,e Mayor ATTEST pity Clerk -2- J STATE OF COLORADO, ) as County of Larimer ) I, MILES F HOUSE, City Clerk of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby certify and declare that the aforesaid Ordinance, consisting of three Sections, was duly proposed and read at length at a regular meeting of the City Council, held on the 22nd day of May, A D 1947 and was duly adopted and ordered published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a daily newspaper and official newspaper of the City of Fort Collins, by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council, as an Emergency Ordinance, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter, and thereafter and on, to-wit the 27thday of May , A D 1947, said Ordinance No 9 was duly published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a daily newspaper published in the City of Fort Collins, Colorado IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said City this 27th day of May, A D 1947 City Clerk
