HomeMy WebLinkAbout004 - 10/09/1931 - RELATING TO SIGNS, AWNINGS AND THE DISPLAY OF MERCHANDISE OVER OR UPON SIDEWALKS AND REPEALING ORDIN c r ORDINANCE NO. 4 , 1931 BEING AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE RELATING TO SIGNS, AWNINGS AND THE DISPLAY OF MERCHANDISE OVER OR UPON SIDEWALKS AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 11 1912, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS. Section 1. No person shall, in this City, set up or cause to be set up, any sign or sign boa that extends over or upon any sidewalk more than two (2) feet from the inside line thereof, except electrical or other illuminated signs, cost- ing more than Twenty-five ($25.00) Dollars, and all of said signs shall be approved by the Building Inspector, provided, however, no electrical sign shall extend more than eight (8) feet from the property line or be placed lower than twelve (12) feet above the sidewalk, except such signs as are provided for in Ordinance No. 1931. No person or persons shall suspend any merchandise in front of any house, or building so that the same shall project to any extent over or upon any sidewalk, and no person or persons shall exhibit or deposit any merchandise or other property upon any sidewalk in this City, provided, however, the provisions of this ordinance shall not prevent merchants from using said side- walk when receiving or shipping goods and such occupancy for said purpose shall not be for a longer period than two (2) consecutive hours and at least two-thirds (2/3) of the sidewalk shall be kept clear for the public use at all times. Section 2. Ordinance No. 1, 1912 and all other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ord- inance, are hereby repealed. Section 3. In the opinion of the City Council an emergency exists for the preservation of the public health, -1- I l 1 I peace and safety, and this ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication, under and by virtue of the authority contained in Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter. J ROSENOW, City Clerk of the City of Fort Collins, do hereby certify and declare that the foregoing Ordinance, consisting of three (3) Sections, was duly proposed and read at length at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 9th day of October, A D. 1931, and was duly adopted and ordered published in the Fort Collins Express-Courier, a daily newspaper and the official newspaper of the City of Fort Collins, by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council, as an emergency ordinance, in accordance with the provisions of Sections 6 and 7 of Irticle IV of the City Charter, and thereafter and on to-wit. the 13th day of October, A D. 1931, said Ordinance No. 4 was duly published in the Fort Collins Express-Courier, a daily newspaper published in the City of Fort Collins, Colorado. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said City this 13th day of October, A D. 1931. City Clerk.
