HomeMy WebLinkAbout002 - 02/13/1958 - AMENDING THE MODEL TRAFFIC CODE ORDINANCE NO 2, f 1958 AMENDING ORDINANCE NO 7 1953 BEING AN ORDINANCE FOR THE REGULATION OF TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, COLORADO BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS Section 1 Section 66 of the Model Traffic Ordinance for Colo- rado Municipalities as adopted by reference by Ordinance No 7 1953 is hereby amended to read as follows Section 66 School buses-stops-signs-passing-(l) The driver of a vehicle upon any highway road or street inside the city limits of the City of Fort Collins upon meeting or overtaking from either di- rection any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging a school child or school children shall stop his vehicle before reaching such school bus if there is in operation on said school bus visual signal lights as specified in subsection (2) of this section and said driver shall not proceed until such school bus resumes motion or until the driver of such vehicle is signaled by the school bus driver to proceed or until the visual signal lights are no longer being actu- ated (2) Every school bus used for the transportation of school children shall bear upon the front and rear thereof plainly visible and legible signs containing the words "SCHOOL BUS' in letters not less than eight inches in height and shall display four visual signal lights which shall be two alternating flashing red lights visible to the drivers of vehicles approaching from the front of the bus and two alternating flash- ing red lights visible to the drivers of vehicles approaching from the rear of such bus said visual signal lights shall be mounted as high as _ practicable be as widely spaced laterally as practicable and shall be located on the same level Said lights shall have sufficient intensity to be visible at five hundred feet in normal sunlight and such signal shall be actuated by the driver of said school bus whenever such ve- hicle is stopped for the purpose of receiving or discharging school children and at no other time (3) When a school bus is being operated for purposes other than the actual transportation of children either to or from school all markings thereon indicating that the vehicle is a 'school bus' shall be covered or concealed, (4) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate roadways need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus which is on a different roadway, (5) Every school bus shall stop as far to the right off the highway road or street as possible before discharging or loading pas- sengers and when possible shall not stop where the visibility is obscured for a distance of two hundred feet either way from the bus Introduced considered favorably on first reading and ordered pub- lished this 9th day of January A D 1958 and to be presented for final passage on the ]3th day of February A D 58 ATTEST Mayor 7 City Clerk Passed and adopted on final reading thisl3th day of February A D 1958 ATTEST Mayor City Clerk - 2 -
