HomeMy WebLinkAbout009 - 02/27/1969 - CALLING FOR AND PROVIDING FOR A GENERAL CITY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 8, 1969 ORDINANCE NO. 1969 BEING AN ORDINANCE CALLING FOR AND PROVIDING FOR A GENERAL CITY ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, ON TUESDAY, THE 8TH DAY OF APRIL, A. D. , 1969. WHEREAS, Article XVI, Section 2 of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins, provides for a general city election to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April , 1955, and biannually thereafter, and WHEREAS, said Charter requires that the Council shall provide by ordinance for the manner of holding city elections and such additional regulations in respect thereto as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of said charter. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS: Section 1 . That a general city election be and the same is hereby called as provided by law to be held in the several precincts of the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, on Tuesday, the 8th day of April , A.D. , 1969. At such election two members of the City Council shall be elected to hold office for four years from the first Tuesday in April after the second Monday in April , 1969, and at such election there shall also be submitted to the qualified voters such Charter amendments and other measurers as are to be voted on. Section 2. The said election shall be held at the following places in the election precincts in the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, to-wit: A-1 Old City Hall (Fire Station) B-1 New City Hall B-3 Washington School - 223 South. Shields Street B-4 Putnam School - 1400 Maple Street C-1 Lincoln Junior High School - 417 South Meldrum Street C-3 Dunn School - 501 South Washington Street C-6 Moore School - 1905 Orchard Place C-7 Plymouth Congregational Church - 916 West Prospect Street C-8 Bauder School - 2345 West Prospect C-9 Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church - 1200 South Taft Hill Road C-10 Blevins Junior High School - 2101 South Taft Hill Road D-1 Poudre Valley REA - 220 East Olive Street E-1 Laurel School - 300 East Laurel Street E-2 Fort Collins High School - 1400 Remington Street E-4 Barton School - 703 East Prospect Street E-5 O'Dea School - 312 Princeton Road E-6 Lesher Junior High School - 1400 Stover Street Section 3. The polls shall be opened at the hour of 7:00 A.M. and shall remain open continuously until and be closed at 7:00 P.M. of said day. Section 4. The said election shall be held and conducted as nearly as may be in the manner prescribed by law in the case of elections for municipal officers. Each elector offering to vote in said election must be a qualified elector and must be registered in accordance with the provisions of the Charter. Voting machines shall be used at the election. Section 5. The City Clerk shall give notice of registration by advertisement in an official newspaper in the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, for ten days prior to March 28, 1969, and by posting a printed notice of registration on the outside of City Hall at least ten days prior to March 28, 1969, to the effect that registration will be held in the City and the City Council finds and determines that such notice is sufficient, adequate and reasonable notice to all qualified electors to register for such election to be held on April 8, 1969. Registration for voting will be open as soon as convenient and continue open until the close of the office of the City Clerk at 5:00 P.M. on March 28, 1969. Section 6. The City Clerk under the direction of the Board of Election shall prepare the ballots to be used at the aforesaid election as provided in Section 7, Article XVI , of the City Charter, and the City Clerk shall publish notice and call said general election as herein authorized in accordance with Section 5, Article XVI, of the City Charter. Said City Clerk, under the direction of the Board of Election, shall arrange the polling places, matters of registration and all other details necessary for the election. Section 7. The Board of Election shall provide for determination of the winner in event of tie vote, for canvas of returns of said election and for issuance of appropriate certificates .as provided in Sections 6 and 12 of Article XVI of the City Charter. Introduced, read at length, considered favorably on first reading and ordered published this 6th day of February, A.D. , 1969, and to be presented for final passage on the 27th day of February, A.D. , 1969.
