HomeMy WebLinkAbout030 - 10/22/1957 - RELATING TO THE ACQUIRING OF A BUS TRANSPORATION SYSTEM, PROVIDING FOR FUNDS THEREFOR AND SUBMISSION 1 ORDINANCE NO 30 1957 RELATING TO THE ACQUIRING OF A BUS TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM FOR THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, PROVIDING FOR FUNDS THEREFOR AND SUBMISSION THEREOF TO THE TAXPAYING ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS DECLARING AN EMERGENCY WHEREAS Section 6 of Article XIII of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins provides that the Council, upon vote of the taxpaying electors shall have the power within and without the territorial limits of the City to purchase and acquire a transportation system and WHEREAS it is the opinion of the Council of the City of Fort Collins, that it is desirable to submit to the taxpaying electors of the City of Fort Collins a proposal to acquire a municipal bus transportation system to be owned and operated by the City of Fort Collins BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS Section 1 Subject to the approval of the within ordinance by the taxpaying electors of the City of Fort Collins at a special election to be held October 22, A D 1957 the City Manager is hereby authorized to pur- chase and acquire a bus transportation system for the use of the City and its inhabitants Section 2 The funds necessary to acquire the busses and equip- ment for said bus transportation system shall be drawn from the equipment fund of the City of Fort Collins Section 3 Said bus transportation system shall be operated by the Department of Municipal Public Utilities in accordance with such schedule of routes as may be designated by the City Manager The schedule of fares shall be adopted by the Council of the City of Fort Collins by resolution and shall be amended thereafter by resolution by said Council as it mad deem necessary Section 4 In the opinion of the City Council an emergency exists for the actual preservation of the public peace, health safety and property since it is necessary to submit the within ordinance to a vote by the tax- paying electors at a special election at an early a date as possible in order to determine the budget requirements for the fiscal year 1958 Accordingly this ordinance shall take effect upon its passage subject to its approval by the taxpaying electors at a special election to be held October 22 A D 1957 under and by virtue of the authority contained in Sections 6 and 7 of Article II of the City Charter Introduced read at length and adopted by the unanimous vote of all the members of the City Council as an emergency ordinance at a regular meeting held this 12th day of September A D 1957 subject however to its approval by the taxpaying electors at a special election to be held on the 22nd day of October 1957 Mayor ATTEST LAd4 City Clerk
