HomeMy WebLinkAbout051 - 10/28/1965 - ESTABLISHING A PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD ORDINANCE NO 51 1965 BEING AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A FORT COLLINS PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD WHEREAS, Article 10 of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins created a Department of Parks and Recreation, and WHEREAS, heretofore by resolution of the City Council of the City of Fort Collins duly passed on January 18, 1962 there was created in conjunction with Poudre School District R-1 a Fort Collins Area Recreation Commission for the purpose of providing a joint recreation program between the City of Fort Collins and Poudre School District R-1, and WHEREAS, by resolution of the City Council of the City of Fort Collins passed on December 3, 1964 there was appointed a temporary Park Advisory Committee for the City of Fort Collins, and WHEREAS, both the temporary Park Advisory Committee and the Fort Collins Area Recreation Commission have recommended that the City of Fort Collins create a Parks and Recreation Board and it is the opinion of the City Council that it would be in the best interests of the City of Fort Collins if such a Board were created NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS Section 1 Pursuant to the authority contained in Section 1, Article 4 of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins there is hereby created the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation Board Section 2 Said Board shall be an advisory board and shall advise the City Council regarding all matters affecting the parks and recreation program of the City of Fort Collins and regarding the implementation of Article 10 of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins Section 3 Said Board shall further have the power and duty to cooperate with the Poudre R-1 School District and other organizations and individuals interested in the parks and recreation program in the Fort Collins area Section 4 Members of said Board shall serve for four years or until their successors are appointed, and the initial appointments shall specify the term of office of each individual in order to achieve overlapping of tenure All � t members shall be/subject to removal by the Council The members of said Board shall serve without compensation Section 5 Said Board shall elect a President, Vice President and Secretary from the membership annually whose duties shall be such as may be prescribed by the by-laws, rules and regulations to be adopted by said Board which said by-laws, rules and regulations shall not be inconsistant with the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Fort Collins A copy of said rules, regulations and by-laws shall be filed with the City Clerk for the use of the City Council immediately after adoption by the Board, and the same shall be subject to the approval of the City Council Section 6 The temporary Park Advisory Committee and the Fort Collins Area Recreation Commission shall be dissolved immediately following the appointment of the members of the Parks and Recreation Board herein created Introduced, considered favorably on first reading and ordered published this 7th day of October, A D , 1965, to be presented for final passage on the 28th day of October, A D , 1965 ayor � ATTEST City Cler Passed and adopted on final reading this 28th day of October, A D , 1965 Mayor ATTEST �� _ City Clerik -2-
