HomeMy WebLinkAbout023 - 05/04/1972 - PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF HOLDING CITY ELECTIONS ORDINANCE NO 23 1972 BEING AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE MANNER OF HOLDING CITY ELECTIONS WHEREAS Section 1 of Article XVI of the Charter of The City of Fort Collins provides that the Council shall provide by Ordinance for the manner of holding city elections and further provides that any matter regarding elections not covered by the State Constitution the City Charter or Ordinance of the City shall be governed by the laws of the State of Colorado relating to municipal elections and WHEREAS in the opinion of the City Council it is desirable to enact an Ordi nance governing some aspects of elections in the City and varying from the Municipal Election Code of 1965 and WHEREAS in enacting this Ordinance it is the intent of the City Council that any matter not covered by this Ordinance the Charter of The City of Fort Collins or the State Constitution shall be governed by the laws of the State of Colorado govern ing municipal elections NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS Section 1 The City Council shall from time to time divide the City into as many election precincts for municipal elections as it may deem expedient for the convenience of electors in the City and shall designate the polling place within each precinct So far as practicable election precincts in the City shall corres pond with the election precincts established by the county Each precinct shall be given a separate designation as determined by the City Council All precincts and polling places established pursuant hereto shall remain so designated until changed by the City Council and the City Council shall have the power to change or alter election precincts at any time All changes in precinct boundaries and in municipal boundaries shall be reported by the City Clerk to the County Clerk as soon as possible after such changes have been effected Section 2 The Board of Election shall appoint judges for each precinct in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter Section 3 Pursuant to the recommendation by the Board of Election judges of election shall receive $25 00 in full compensation for their services as a judge at any election except that the judges in each precinct shall select one of their number to deliver the election returns registration book or list and other election papers and supplies to the City Clerk and the judge so selected shall be paid an additional $4 00 for the performance of such service Section 4 The members of the Board of Election shall be paid for their services as such at the rate of $2 00 for each hour they spend performing their duties as members of such Board Section 5 At each election in the City voting machines shall be used and the City Clerk is authorized to rent from Laruner County such number of machines as may be necessary to adequately provide for each election precinct Section 6 The City Clerk is hereby authorized to pay as rent for the polling place in each election precinct the sum of $12 00 Introduced considered favorably on first reading and ordered published this 13th day of April A D 1972 and to be presented for final passage on the 4th day of May A D 1972 S' M or ATTEST City Clerk Passed and adopted on final reading this 4th day of May A D 1972 r44,tt E &,,� ATTEST Mayor City Clerk 2
