BEING AN ORDINAvCE ANENDINC SECTION 38u2 OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE
INSOFAR AS IT RELATES TO AUTOMATIC FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM
BE IT trRDAI.,'FU BY ThE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows
Section 1 That Section 3302 (b) (1 ) of the Uniform Building Code,
1976 Edition, be, and the same hereby is, amenaed to read as follows
"§3802 (b) Where Reauired
( 1 ) In every story, basement or cellar of all buildinas
except Groups R, Division 3 and M occupancies where
floor area exceeds 1500 square feet and there is
not provided at least 20 square feet of opening
entirely above the adjoininq ground level in each 50
lineal feet or fraction thereof of exterior wall in
the story, Dasement or cellar on at least one side
of the ouIluing Openings shall have the minimum
aimension of not less tnan 30 inches Such openings
shall be maintained readily accessible to the fire
departrr.nt and shall not be obstructed in a manner
that fire fighting or rescue cannot be accomplished
from the exterior
EXCEPTION An automatic fire extinguishing system
shall not be requirea in a Group R, Division I
aoartm erit , basement or cellar provided the following
conditions exist
a The individual basement area does not comprise a
separate dwelling unit
b The > >dividual basement area does not exceed 750
square feet of floor area
c The basement or cellar exits are placed a dis-
tance apart eaual to not less than one-half of
the length of the maximum overall diagonal
dimprision of the area to be served measured in a
straight line between exits
d A prcoucts of combustion detector is located
at the oasernent of the stairway
e Basement areas of individual dwelling units
are separated by one-hour fire-resistive
demising Jalls
Then openings in a story are provided on only
one side and the opposite wall of such story is
more than 75 feet fron such openings , the story
shall De provided with an approved automatic
fire extinguishing system, or openings as specified
above shall be provided on at least t<%o sides of the
exterior galls of the story
If any porticn of a basement or cellar is located
more than 75 feet from opEninds required in this
section, the baseneiit or cellar shall be provided
with an approved autorratic fire extinguishinq
system "
