HomeMy WebLinkAbout004 - 01/04/1983 - PROVIDING FOR A SPECIFIED CHARTER AMENDMENT TO BE SUBMITTED TO A VOTE OF THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF T A r ORDINANCE N0. 4 1983 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS PROVIDING FOR A SPECIFIED CHARTER AMENDMENT TO BE SUBMITTED TO A VOTE OF THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY WHEREAS, Article IV, Section 8, of the Charter of the Ci y of Fort Collins provides that the Charter may be amended as provided b the laws of the State of Colorado; and WHEREAS, 31-2-210, C.R.S. 1973, as amended, provi es that Charter amendments may be initiated by the adoption of an ordin nce by the Council submitting a proposed amendment to a vote of the lified electors of the City of Fort Collins. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED/ors /ILF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS: Section I . That the Council hathe Charter of the City of Fort Collins and desires to submit amendment to the qualified electors of the City. The followinCharter amendment shall be submitted to a vote of the qualified the City: PROPOSED CHARTER . 1 Amend Section 1 (b) of Artic a II of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins to read as follows: Article II City Council "Section 1 . Members p (b) Three of ch Councilmembers shall be nominated and elect d from the City at large. The remaining four me ers shall be nominated and elected by dis- tricts in the City. Commencing with the general election in 1985, the City Council shall , by ordinance, at east six months before any election at which Co ncilmembers will be elected from districts, divide e City into four districts, each consisting of approximately the same number of electors, and each district representing one continuous reasonably compact unit. One Councilmember shall be elected from each district BY THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS RESIDING IN SUCH DISTRICT." Fa; led VgIV3 This amendment shall be submitted in the following language: PROPOSED AMENDMENT NO. 1 An Amendment to Article II , Section 1( b) of the Charter providing for the election of four City Councilmembers by districts, one Councilmember to be elected from each district by the qualified electors residing in such district.
