HomeMy WebLinkAbout207 - 01/15/1985 - SUBMITTING A PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT TO A VOTE OF THE REGISTERED ELECTORS OF THE CITY CONCERNING ORDINANCE NO. 207, 1984 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS SUBMITTING A PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT TO A VOTE OF THE REGISTERED ELECTORS OF THE C Y OF FORT COLLINS CONCERNING THE REQUIREMENT TO OB IN THE SIGNATURES OF 25 REGISTERED ELECTORS FOR NO NATION TO THE OFFICE OF CITY COUNCILMEMBER WHEREAS, Article V, Section 8, of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins provides that t Charter may be amended as provided by the laws of the State of Colorado; a WHEREAS, §31-2-210, C. .S. , provides that Charter amendments may be initiated by the adoption an ordinance by the Council submitting a proposed amendment to a vote o the qualified electors of the City of Fort Collins. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAI D BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS: Section 1 . That the Council has reviewed the Charter of the City of Fort Collins and desires to submit the llowing proposed Charter amendment to the registered voters of the City at the next regular City election to be held March 5, 1985: PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDME NO. 5 Amend Section 3 , Article XVI of the Ch rter of the City of Fort Collins to read as follows: Article XVI Elections. Section 3. Nomination. Any person who is qualified for the office t be filled may be nominated for an elective office by petition. A tition for this purpose shall be signed by not less than twenty- ' ve registered electors for each candidate to be elected. A register d elector may sign petitions for as many persons as there are offices o be filled by election. The signatures on the nominating petition ed not all be subscribed on one page, but to each separate page of th petition there shall be attached a signed statement of the circulator hereof, stating the number of signers on each page of the petition, a that each signature thereon was made in his presence and is the ge uine signature of the person whose name it purports to be. Following ch signature on the petitions of nomination shall be written the resi- dence address of the signer. The form of the nominating petition shall be substantially as follows: -De-Fea Ee d I - IS _ as- s ^r I, an undersigned registered elector of the City of Fort Collins , hereby nominate. . . . . .. . . whose residence is. . . ... .. . .. . .. .. to be voted for at the election to be held on the . .. . day of . . .. . .. . . ; and I certify that I am registered to vote for this candidate and that I have not signed more nominating petitions than there are offices for which I am entitled to vote. Name Street and Number Date of Signing (Spaces for signatures and required data) The circulator of each petition shall make and file with the petition the following: Statement of Circulator I, the undersigned, a registered elector of the City of Fort Collins, am the circulator of the foregoing petition containing . .. ... .. . . .. .. signatures. Each signature was made in my presence and is the genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be. Signature of Circulator My address is Subscribed and sworn to before me this _ day of My Commission expires (SEAL) Deputy Clerk or Notary Public When executed, such statement shall be accepted as true until it shall be proved false. If any portion is proved false, that portion of any petition shall be disregarded. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Section 2. Proposed Charter Amendment No. 5 shall be submitted to the voters in the following ballot language: -2- PROPOSED AMENDMENT NO. 5 An Amendment to XVI, Section 3 of the Charter providing that a petition of a candidate seeking nomination to the office of City Council shall be signed by not less than twenty-five registered electors for each candidate to be elected.
