HomeMy WebLinkAbout161 - 11/06/2001 - REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 2, 2001, AND DESIGNATING THE DEINES BARN AND TWIN SILOS AS A LANDMARK ORDINANCE NO. 161, 2001 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 2, 2001 AND DESIGNATING THE DEINES BARN AND TWIN SILOS AS A LANDMARK PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 14 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 14-2 of the City Code, the City Council has established a public policy encouraging the protection, enhancement and perpetuation of landmarks within the city; and WHEREAS, the Deines Barn and Twin Silos were designated as a landmark pursuant to Ordinance No. 2,2001,but it was subsequently discovered that said designation was made without proper authority because there was an invalid signature on the application for said designation;and WHEREAS,the legal owner,the Shenandoah Owners'Association,has heretofore consented to such landmark designation and has executed an application for designation; and WHEREAS, by Resolution dated September 26, 2001, the Landmark Preservation Commission (the "Commission") has determined that the Deines Barn and Twin Silos have architectural importance to Fort Collins as locally rare examples of farmstead architecture, and historical importance for their association with the agricultural development of the city; and WHEREAS,the Commission has further determined that said property meets the criteria of a landmark as set forth in Section 14-5 of the Code and is eligible for designation as a landmark,and has recommended to the City Council that said property be designated by the City Council as a landmark; and WHEREAS, such landmark designation will preserve the property's significance to the community; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the recommendation of the Commission and desires to approve such recommendation and designate said property as a landmark. NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1. That Ordinance No. 2, 2001, be, and hereby is, repealed. Section 2. That the building and structures historically known as the Deines Barn and Twin Silos, located on lands in the City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado, described as follows, to wit: The area of land known as the Historic Site Easement,as depicted in Tract C on the Final Plat of the Shenandoah PUD, First Filing; including also the improvements located within the Historic Site Easement known as the"Deines Barn and Twin Silos,"located within the City of Fort Collins, County of Larimer, State of Colorado (also known as 7225 and 7309 South College Avenue) be, and hereby is, designated as a landmark pursuant to Chapter 14 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins. Section 3. That the Secretary of the Interior's standards and guidelines for the treatment of historic properties will serve as the standards by which alterations, additions and other changes to the building and structures located upon the above described property will be reviewed for compliance with Chapter 14, Article III, of the Code of the City of Fort Collins. Introduced, considered favorably on first reading, and ordered published this 16th day of October, A.D. 2001, and to be presented for final passage on�the 6th day of November, A.D. 2001.
