HomeMy WebLinkAbout088 - 06/04/1996 - DESIGNATING THE AGGIE THEATRE BUILDING, 204 SOUTH COLLEGE AS A HISTORIC LANDMARK (WITHDRAWN BY APPLI ORDINANCE NO. 88, 1996 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS DESIGNATING TLIE AGGIE THEATRE BUILDING, 204 SOUTH COLLEGE AVENUE, FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, AS A HISTORIC LANDMARK PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 14 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 14-2 of the City Code, the City Council has established a public policy encouraging the protection,enhancement and perpetuation of historic landmarks within the City; and WHEREAS, the owners of the Aggie Theatre, located at 204 South College Avenue (the "Property")have requested that the Property be designated a historic landmark under the procedures described in the above referenced Section of the City Code; and WHEREAS, on April 23, 1996, the Landmark Preservation Commission ("Commission") recommended that the Properly not be designated as a historic landmark because the building has been extensively altered from its original appearance such that a contemporary from the building's "period of significance" would not recognize the building today; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the recommendation of the Commission and, notwithstanding (lie same, believes that such landmark designation will preserve the Property's significance to the community and desires to designate the Property as a historic landmark. NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF TILE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section I. That the Aggie Theatre located on lands in the City of Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado, described as follows, to wit: A wedge shaped portion of Lot 10, Block 122 of the City of Fort Collins, along the south line thereof, more particularly described as follows: Commencing at the Southwest corner of said Lot 10, Block 122, thence East along the South line of said lot to the Southeast corner thereof, thence North along the East line of said lot a distance of four inches (4"), thence Westerly in a straight line to the point of beginning and Lot 1 I and the North twenty feet ten inches (20' 10") of Lot 12, Block 122 in the City of Fort Collins, together with improvements thereon and appurtenances thereto be, and hereby is, designated as a historic landmark pursuant to Chapter 14 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins. Section 2. That the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings (U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Revised 1983) shall serve as the standards by which alterations, additions and other changes to the structure located upon the above described property shall be reviewed for compliance with Chapter 14, Article Ill, of the Code of the City of Fort Collins. Introduced, considered favorably on first reading,and ordered published this 4th day of June, A.D. 1996, and to be presented for final passage on the 18th day of June, A.D. 1996.
