HomeMy WebLinkAbout096 - 07/15/1997 - AMENDING THE CITY CODE REGARDING TAX AND UTILITY REBATES ORDINANCE NO. 96, 1997 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AMENDING CHAPTER 25 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS REGARDING TAX AND UTILITY REBATES WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Fort Collins has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to provide property tax, utility, and sales tax rebate programs for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents of the city to provide some financial relief to those members of the population who may have difficulty paying routine bills and to help make the cost of food and housing more affordable to these residents; and WHEREAS, the last update to the Code of the City of Fort Collins pertaining to financial guidelines was made in 1981 for the property tax and utility rebates and 1984 for the sales tax rebate program; and WHEREAS, approximately $16,000 has gone unspent each year because of the unchanged gross income limits for participation in the rebate programs; and WHEREAS, an additional amount of $20,000 was also appropriated for the 1997 rebate year; and WHEREAS, changing the gross income limits for all rebate programs to match those used by the City's HOME Program provides consistency among city programs. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1. That Section 25-29(4)of the Code of the City of Fort Collins is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 25-29. Qualifications. (4) Any applying household shall have an annual income which shall not exceed the following maximum limits: Number in Maximum household household limits 1 $10,000. 2 12,000. 3 14,000. 4 or more 16,000. Section 2. That Section 25-49(1) of the Code of the City of Fort Collins is hereby amended to read as follows: See. 25-49. Qualifications. (1) All members of an applicant household must have resided within the city prior to the commencement of the calendar year for which application is made and at the time the application is made. Any applying household shall have an annual income which shall not exceed the following maximum limits: Number in Maximum household household limits 1 $10,000. 2 12,000. 3 14,000. 4 or more 16,000.
