HomeMy WebLinkAbout108 - 07/17/2001 - APPROPRIATING UNANTICIPATED GRANT REVENUE TO BE USED TO IMPLEMENT THE NATIVE AMERICAN GRAVES PROTECT ORDINANCE NO. 108, 2001 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS APPROPRIATING UNANTICIPATED GRANT REVENUE IN THE CULTURAL SERVICES AND FACILITIES FUND TO BE USED TO IMPLEMENT THE NATIVE AMERICAN GRAVES PROTECTION AND REPATRIATION ACT WHEREAS, in December of 2000,the Fort Collins Museum submitted a grant application to the Department of Interior,National Park Service for a Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act grant ("NAGPRA grant") in the amount of$70,040; and WHEREAS, on May 21,2001,the Museum was awarded a NAGPRA grant, in the amount of$70,040 from the Department of Interior,National Park Service; and WHEREAS, the aforementioned grant is awarded to tribal communities and museums for the purposes of documenting American Indian collections currently held by institutions that have received federal funding; and WHEREAS, the proceeds from the NAGPRA grant will be used to assist in the implementation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act by hiring a NAGPRA Coordinator to facilitate communication and consultation with tribes and provide for consultation fees and travel expenses; and WHEREAS, no local matching funds are required; and WHEREAS,Article V, Section 9,of the Charter of the City of Fort Collins permits the City Council to make supplemental appropriations by ordinance at any time during the fiscal year, provided that the total amount of such supplemental appropriations,in combination with all previous appropriations for that fiscal year,do not exceed the then current estimate of actual and anticipated revenues to be received during the fiscal year; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Council to appropriate the sum of$70,040 in federal Department of Interior, National Park Service NAGPRA grant funds in the Cultural Services and Facilities Fund, Museum NAGPRA project budget to be used to for implementing the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS that there is hereby appropriated for expenditure from unanticipated revenue in the Cultural Services and Facilities Fund,NAGPRA grant project,the sum of SEVENTY THOUSAND FORTY DOLLARS ($70,040) from the federal Department of Interior, National Park Service, to be used to implement the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. Introduced and considered favorably on first reading and ordered published this 19th day of June, A.D. 2001, and to be presented for final passage on the 17th day of July, A.D. 2001.
