OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF FORT COLLINS RELATING TO THE
COMMISSION ON DISABILITY
WHEREAS, the Commission on Disability (the "Commission") has been in existence in
varying form since 1977, when it was established as the Handicapped Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, the Commission has evolved to meet the changing needs of individuals with
disabilities in Fort Collins; and
WHEREAS, the Commission has requested that its functions as defined in Chapter 2 of the
Code of the City of Fort Collins be amended to reflect more appropriate terminology and to more
accurately describe the role of the Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS that Section 2-153 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins be, and hereby is, amended
to read as follows:
See. 2-153. Functions.
The commission shall have the following functions:
(1) To develop educational programs to acquaint our citizens with
issues affecting individuals with disabilities;
(2) To form special committees including noncommission
consultants or specialists to address issues affecting the
well-being of individuals with disabilities;
(3) To communicate with other commissions in order to generate
ideas helpful to the City Council;
(4) To educate city departments about access issues affecting
individuals with disabilities;
(5) To recommend to the city design requirements that ensure
accessibility;
(6) To help the city establish conditions and practices that
contribute to employing individuals with disabilities;
(7) To serve as advocates among city departments, private
businesses, and the community on behalf of individuals with
disabilities.
Introduced, considered favorably on first reading, and ordered published this 4th day of
March, A.D. 1997, and to be presented for final passage on the 18th day of Mach, A.D. 1997.
