HomeMy WebLinkAbout092 - 07/01/1997 - AMENDING CITY CODE TO ESTABLISH THE BUDGET TERM FOR THE CITY ORDINANCE NO. 92, 1997 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AMENDING CHAPTER 8, ARTICLE I OF THE CITY CODE TO ESTABLISH THE BUDGET TERM FOR THE CITY WHEREAS, on April 8, 1997,the electorate of the City approved certain amendments to the City Charter; and WHEREAS, one of such amendments was an amendment to Article V, Section 1 of the City Charter, which amendment provided that the term of the budget of the City may be for more than one year and requiring that the Council establish by ordinance the term for which it shall adopt such budget; and WHEREAS,under Article III, Section 2 of the City Charter,the City Manager is responsible for preparing, submitting and administering the budget and for making recommendations to the Council with regard to the future financial needs of the City; and WHEREAS,the City Manager has recommended to the Council that the term of the budget be established at two (2)years; and WHEREAS,the City Council wishes to accept the recommendation of the City Manager and adopt an ordinance to that effect. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, that Chapter 8,Article I,of the City Code is hereby amended so as to read in its entirety as follows: ARTICLE I. BUDGET Sec. 8-1. Term of the budget. On or before the first Monday in September, commencing in 1997 and every other year thereafter,the City Manager shall file with the City Clerk a proposed budget for the city for the ensuing two-year term. Said budget shall conform to the requirements of the City Charter and shall be processed by the City Council in the manner described therein. Introduced, considered favorably on first reading, and ordered published this 17th day of June, A.D. 1997, and to be presented for final passage on the 1 st day of July, A.D. 1997.
