HomeMy WebLinkAbout173 - 12/21/1993 - AMENDING CITY CODE AND FIXING THE COMPENSATION OF THE CITY MANAGER ORDINANCE NO. 173, 1993 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AMENDING SECTION 2-596 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AND FIXING THE COMPENSATION OF THE CITY MANAGER WHEREAS, pursuant to Article III, Section 1 of the City Charter, it is the responsibility of the City Council (the "Council ") to fix the compensation of the City Manager; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins is committed to compensating its employees in a manner which is fair, competitive and understandable; and WHEREAS, the City's pay philosophy is based on total compensation, which includes not only base salary but also deferred compensation payments, vacation and holiday leave, and amounts paid by the City for medical , dental , life and long-term disability insurance; and WHEREAS, each year, the City surveys the salaries and benefits of positions in other cities in Colorado and private companies which are comparable to positions within the City of Fort Collins and uses this information to help establish the compensation for its employees; and WHEREAS, each year, the Council also conducts a review of the performance of the City Manager; and WHEREAS, having completed said performance review, the City Council has established certain goals for the City Manager, which goals are to be accomplished on or before March 1, 1994; and WHEREAS, in anticipation of the City Manager's satisfactory accomplishment of these goals, the Council believes, based upon its review of the City Manager's performance and the relevant labor market information provided to the Council , that the base salary of the City Manager should be established at the amount of $90,816, effective January 3, 1994, so that the total compensation paid to the City Manager in 1994 would be in the amount of $113,359. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1. That Section 2-596 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 2-596. Salary of the City Manager. The base salary to be paid the City Manager shall be $90,816 per annum, payable in biweekly installments. Forty (40) percent of such sum shall be charged to the city electric utility, twenty (20) percent to the city water utility and forty (40) percent to the general governmental expense. Section 2. That the effective date of the salary adjustment referred to in Section 1 above shall be January 3, 1994, or such later date as the 1994 salary increases for other employees of the City become effective.
