HomeMy WebLinkAbout185 - 12/20/1994 - AMENDING CITY CODE AND SETTING THE COMPENSATION OF THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER ORDINANCE NO. 185, 1994 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AMENDING SECTION 2-596 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS AND SETTING THE COMPENSATION OF THE INTERIM CITY MANAGER WHEREAS, pursuant to Article III, Section 1 of the City Charter, the City Council (the "Council ") is responsible for fixing the compensation of the City Manager; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins is •committed to compensating its employees in a manner which is fair, competitive and understandable; and WHEREAS, the City's pay philosophy is based on total compensation, which includes not only base salary but also deferred compensation payments, vacation and holiday leave, and amounts paid by the City for medical , dental , life and long-term disability insurance; and WHEREAS, the former City Manager of the City of Fort Collins resigned effective October 21, 1994; and WHEREAS, the City Charter places the responsibility of appointing a City Manager with the Council ; and WHEREAS, the Council , through adoption of Resolution 94-173, appointed Deputy City Manager Diane Jones as the Interim City Manager effective October 22, 1994; and WHEREAS, this interim appointment will continue in effect until such time as the Council officially appoints the new City Manager or such earlier time as the Council may subsequently determine to be in the best interest of the City; and WHEREAS, the Council agrees that at such time as the Interim City Manager is relieved of her duties as Interim City Manager, she will be returned to the position of Deputy City Manager; and WHEREAS, the Council further agrees that when the services of the Interim City Manager have been completed, the Council will consider granting her a performance bonus of five (5) vacation days, if in the Council 's judgment she has performed the duties of Interim City Manager as expected; and WHEREAS, the Council met with the Interim City Manager to review her goals while she serves in the capacity as Interim City Manager; and WHEREAS, the Council believes, based upon the added responsibilities placed on the Deputy City Manager, that the base salary of the Interim City Manager should be established at the amount of $84,598, effective October 22, 1994, so that the annualized total compensation paid to the Interim City Manager will be in the amount of $108,407. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS as follows: Section 1. That Section 2-596 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-596. Salary of the City Manager. The base salary to be paid the City Manager shall be $84,598 per annum,_ payable in biweekly installments. Forty (40)_ percent of such sum shall be charged to the city electric utility, twenty (20) percent to the city water utility and forty (40) percent to the general governmental expense. Section 2. That the effective date of the salary adjustment referred to in Section 1 above shall be October 22, 1994. Section 3. That at such time as the Interim City Manager is relieved of her duties as Interim City Manager, she will be returned to the position of Deputy City Manager. Sect-ion 4. That when the services of the interim City Manager have been completed, the Council will consider granting her a performance bonus of five (5) vacation days, if in the Council 's judgment she has performed the duties of Interim City Manager as expected.
