OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
ADOPTING THE UNIFORM ELECTION CODE OF 1992
IN LIEU OF THE COLORADO MUNICIPAL ELECTION
CODE OF 1965 TO PARTICIPATE IN
COORDINATED ELECTIONS IN LARIMER COUNTY
WHEREAS, the passage of Amendment 1 in 1992 and other recent legislation
means that several governmental jurisdictions in Larimer County will have the
opportunity to hold simultaneous coordinated elections in November of each year;
and
WHEREAS, H.B. 93-1255, adopted by the Colorado Legislature, amends the
Uniform Election Code of 1992 to allow several governmental jurisdictions to
coordinate their election operations and permit the registered electors to vote
on all candidates and all ballot issues and questions on one coordinated ballot;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Collins wishes to preserve the opportunity to
participate in coordinated elections whenever appropriate; and
WHEREAS, subsequent to the adoption of H.B. 93-1063 by the Colorado
Legislature, Section 31-10-102.7 of the Colorado Revised Statutes permits any
municipality to adopt the provisions of the Uniform Election Code of 1992 with
respect to any regular or special municipal election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS, COLORADO, as follows:
Section 1. That the City of Fort Collins hereby adopts the Uniform Election
Code of 1992 in lieu of the Colorado Municipal Election Code of 1965 for the
purpose of participating in coordinated elections in Larimer County, in
accordance with the provisions of Section 31-10-102.7, C.R.S.
Section 2. That participation in any such coordinated election shall be
specifically authorized by the Council of the City of Fort Collins pursuant to
the provisions of the City Charter.
Section 3. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to work with the Larimer
County Clerk and Recorder and to take all necessary actions to conduct special
municipal elections held in conjunction with any coordinated election in
accordance with Article 20 of Title X of the Colorado Constitution, the Uniform
Election Code of 1992, and all other appropriate statutes.
