RELATING TO AUTOMOBILES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS,
COLORADO -
Section 1. The owner of each automobile or motorcycle, before
the same shall beused within this city, shall procure from the
City Clerk a number therefor, the figures of which shall not be
less than 3 inches high and 2 inches wide, which number shall be
conspicuously displayed upon said vehicle when in use so that the
same may be plainly seen, day or night, and shall be registered
with the City Clerk with the name of the owner of the vehicle and
the term for which payment is made, the said name ,number and term
to be by the said clerk recorded in a book kept for that purpose.
For said number the applicant shall pay to the City Clerk two
dollars for each year beginning with the first day of January and
ending with the Thirty first day of December Provided - that the
City Clerk shall at any time after the Thirty-first day of larch
Issue numbers as aforesaid for the remaining portion of the year
at the rate of 50cents per quarter. And provided further that
the provisions of this ordinance relative to the numbering of
vehicles and pagient of fees shall not apply to transientq, tourists
visitors or or other persons residing outside the corporate limits
of this city who use their vehicles within the corporate limits
of this city not more than five successive days within the period
of one year, and that transients, tourists or visitors who disire
to so use their vehicles for a longer peried than five days may
Procure a number for their vehicles for such term as they may de-
sire, not exceeding three months, by payment as before provide of
fifty cents. All numbers furnished to •sners of aehicles by the
City Clerk shall remain the property of the city and shall be
returned to the City Clerk at or before the expiration of the
term for which payment is made unless the term shall be renewed or
extended by payment of amount provided in case of original applica-
tion

Section 2. Engines attached to automobiles or other vehicles shall
not run idle, or while the vehicle is at a stand still in any pub-
lic street or alley, for a greater length of time than five minutes,
and no person shall run any such vehicle, supplied with a muffler,
with the exhaust open except when necessary to start the machine,
ascend a grade, or when the full power of the engine otherwise be-
comes necessary. Every person driving or operating such vehicle
within the city shall at the request or signal by putting up the
hand of ;a person driving restive or frightened animal or an-
imals, cause shah vehicle to immediately stop and remain standing
so long as may be necessary to allow such animals to pass. All
such vehicles are required to carry, when running, sufficient light
front and rear to serve as signal lights to bmherg on the streets
or cross walks
Section 8. All fees, fines and penalties collected by the city
by virtue of this ordinance shall be added to and become a part
of the fund set apart by the city council for the improvement of
streets and crossings
Any person violating , or failing to comply with any of the pro-
visions of this ordinance shall be fined not less than five nor
more than twenty five dollars for each offense.
