ORDINANCE NO. 27 1929
BEING AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE KEEPING OF SIDEWALKS
FREE FROM SNOW AND ICE AND PROVIDING FOR PAYMENT AND COLLECTION OF
COSTS OF REMOVAL THEREOF, AND IMPOSING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
Section 1. The owners or occupants of property abutting
upon or adjacent to sidewalks within the corporate limits of the
City of Fort Collins , shall at all times keep the sidewalks abutting
upon or adjacent to the lot or lots owned by them free and clear

of snow and ice, and any such® ems or owners who shall fail to
remove the snow and ice from the walks in front of or adjacent to
their premises within twenty-four hours after the accumulation of
snow and ice , then the Commissioner of Public Works may at once have
said sidewalks cleaned and cleared of snow and ice and the expense
thereof charged to the owner or owners of said lot or lots, and the
expense so incurred by the City, together with all costs of making
the assessment , shall become a lien against the lot or lots abutting
upon or adjacent to the walk so cleaned of snow and ice , and collected
as provided in Ordinance No. 19, 1884, as amended by Ordinance No 4,
1904, passed and adopted May 16, 1904, "Concerning Assessment and
collection of Special Charges, " unless the owner of said lots shall
elect to pay to the City Clerk the expense of said cleaning on or
before the time the Commissioner of Public Works shall certify the
expense thereof to the City Council for assessment and collection
as provided under said last mentioned ordinance
Section 2 It is further provided that it shall be the
duty of all persons within the corporate limits of the City of Fort
Collins hereafter to keep the sidewalks in front of or adjacent to
the tenements and grounds occupied by them clear of snow and ice ,
and after any fall of snow said person or persons shall remove the
same from the sidewalks within twenty-four hours after said snow fall

Section 3. Any person or persons who shall violate any
of the provisions of Section 2 hereof, shall upon conviction be
fir for each offense a sum not less than one dollar nor more
than twenty doliars and each and every day that the snow and ice
remains upon said sidewalk shall be considered a separate offense
Section 4 Ordinance No 1, Series of 1914, is hereoy re-
pealed, together with all ordinances or parts of ordinances in con-
flict herewith
Section 5 In the opinion of the City Council, an
emergency exists for the preservation of the public health, peace
and safety, and this ordinance shall take effect upon its passage
and publication under and by virtue of the authority contained in
Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter.

posed and read at length at a regular meeting of the City Council
held on the 8th day of November , A D 19 29 , and
was duly adopted and ordered published in the Fort Collins Express-
Courier, a daily newspaper and the official newspaper of the City
of Fort Collins, by the unanimous vote of all members of the City
Council, as an emergency ordinance, in accordance with the pro-
visions of Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter, and
thereafter and on to-wit the 12th day of November ,
A D 19 29 , said Ordinance No. 27 was duly published in the
Fort Collins Express-Courier, a daily newspaper published in the
City of Fort Collins, Colorado.
