ORDINANCE NO. 2: 1955
BEING AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE CALLING AND PROVIDING FOR A GENERAL CITY
ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS, COLORADO, ON TUESDAY.
THE 5th DAY OF APRII,, A. D. 19552 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING FIVE
COUNCILMEN. "
WHEREAS, the Charter for the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, adopted October 5,
1954, provides for a general City election to be held on the first Tuesday after
the first Monday in April 1955 for the purpose of electing 5 members to the City
Council, and
WHEREAS, said Charter requires that the Council shall provide by Ordinance
for the manner of holding City elections and such additional regulations in respect
thereto as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of said Charter.
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
Section 1 That a general City election be and the same is hereby called
as provided by lax to be held in the several precincts of the City of Fort Collins,
Colorado, on Tuesday, the 5th day of April, A. D. 1955, at which election 5 members
of the City Council shall be elected. The 3 candidates receiving the highest
number of votes to hold office for 4 years, and the 2 candidates receiving the neat
highest number of votes to hold office for 2 years from the first Tuesday in April
after the second Monday in April 1955.
Section 2. The said election shall be held at the following places in said
precincts in the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, to-wit
Precinct A-1 - City Hall-
Precinct B-1 - Rees and Schxitters
Precinct B-2 - LaPorte School
Precinct B-3 - Community House, City Park
Precinct C-1 - Court House
Precinct C-2 - Lincoln Junior Hi&h School_
Precinct 6-3 - ,'First Pres)yterlan Church
Precinct 6.4 - washington School - —"
Precinct C-5 - A. H. Dunn School
Precinct D-1 - Remington School
Precinct D-2 - Bethlehem Lutheran Church
Precinct D-3 - Laurel School
Precinct E-1 - State Armory
Precinct E-2 - Mame R. Harris School

Section 3. The polls shall be opened at the hour of 7 00 otclock
A.M. and shall remain open continuously until and be closed at 7 00 o'clock P.M,
of said day
Section 4. The said election shall be held and conducted as nearly
as may be in the manner prescribed by law in the case of elections for municipal
officers. Each elector offering to vote in the said election must be a qualified
elector and must be registered in accordance with the provisions of said Charter
Section 5. The City Clerk shall give notice of registration by ad.
vertisement in the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the official newspaper of the City
of Fort Collins, Colorado, for 16 days prior to March 25, 1955, and by posting a
printed notice of registration on the outside of the City Hall at least 10 days
prior to March 25, 1955, to the effect that registration will be held in the City,
and the City Council finds and determines that such notice is sufficient, adequate
and reasonable notice to all qualified electors to register for said election to
be held on April 5, 1955. Registration for voting will be open as soon as
convenient and continue open until the close of the office of the City Clerk at
5 00 otclock P.M. on March 25, 1955.
Section 6. The City Clerk, under the direction of the Board of
Election, shall prepare the ballots to be used at the aforesaid election as
provided by Section 7, Article XVI of said City Charter, and the City Clerk shall
publish notice and call said general election as herein authorized in accordance
with Section 5, Article XVI of said City Charter. Said City Clerk, under the
direction of the Board of Elections,shall-arrange the polling places, matters of
registration, and all other details necessary for said election.
Section` 7. The Board of Elections shall provide for determination
of the winner in event of tie vote, for canvass of returns of said election, and
for issuance of appropriate certificates as provided in Sections 6 and 12 of
Article XVI of said City Charter.

Section B. In the opinion of the City Council an emergency exists
for the preservation of the public health, peace and safety and this Ordinance
shall take effect upon its passage and publication under and by virtue of the
authority contained in Sections 6 and 7 of Article ID of the City Charter.
Introduced, read at length and adopted by the unanimous vote of all
the members of the City Council at a regular meeting thereof held this 4th day
of March, A. D. 1955. ^

I, MILES F. HOUSE, City Clerk of the City of Fort Collins, do
hereby certify and declare that the aforesaid Ordinance, consisting of eight
sectiong, was duly proposed and read at length'at a regular meeting of the City
Council, held on the 4th day of March, A. D. 1955, and was duly adopted and
ordered published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a daily newspaper and official
newspaper of the City of Fort Collins, by the unanimous vote of all members of
the City Council, as an Emergency Ordinance, in accordance with the provisions
of Sections 6 and 7 of Article IV of the City Charter, and thereafter and on,
to wit the_.8&Lday of March , A. D. 1955, said Ordinance No. 2
was duly published in the Fort Collins Coloradoan, a daily newspaper published in
the City of Fort Collins, Colorado.
