OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
BEING AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PORTIONS OF THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS RELATING TO
BICYCLE LANES AND VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT COLLINS
as follows-
Section 1. That Section 114-3 of the Code of the City of
Fort Collins be, and the same hereby is, amended by the addition
thereto of the following Section-
"BICYCLE LANE - A restricted on-street right-of-way
designated for the exclusive or semi-exclusive use
of bicycles with through travel by motor vehicles
or pedestrians prohibited but with vehicular parking
and cross-flows by pedestrians and motorists
permitted "
Section 2 That Section 114-118 of the Code of the City
of Fort Collins be, and the same hereby is, amended by the
deletion of the presently existing Section in its entirety and
the substitution therefor of a new Section 114-118 to read as
follows:
"Section ZZ4-ZZ8 Roadways and biaycZe lanes
A Every person operating a bicycle upon a road-
way shall ride as near to the right side of
the roadway as practicable, excercising care
when passing a standing vehicle or one pro-
ceeding in the same direction when there are
no bicycle lanes or paths provided
B Whenever a bicycle lane has been established on
a roadway, any person operating a bicycle upon
the roadway at a speed less than the normal
speed of traffic moving in the same direction
shall ride within the bicycle lane, except that
such person may move out of the lane under any
of the following situations:
(1) When overtaking and passing another bicycle,
vehicle, or pedestrian within the lane or
about to enter the lane if such overtaking
and passing cannot be done safely within
the lane
(2) When preparing for a left turn at an
intersection or into a private road or
driveway
(3) When reasonably necessary to leave the
bicycle lane to avoid debris or other
hazardous conditions
C. No person operating a bicycle shall leave a bicycle
lane until the movement can be made with reasonable
safety and then only after giving an appropriate
signal in the event that any vehicle may be affected
by the movement.
D Motor Vehicles in a Bicycle Lane- Whenever a
bicycle lane has been established on a roadway,
any person operating a motor vehicle on such road-
way shall not drive in the bicycle lane except to
park where parking is permitted or to enter or to
leave the highway, or to prepare for a turn Motor
vehicles entering a bicycle lane for the purposes
of parking or entering or leaving a highway or
preparing for a turn shall yield the right-of-way
to bicycles within the bicycle lane "
