OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY7F FORT COLLINS
DESIGNATING PROPERTY WITHIN THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS AS A HISTORIC LANDMARK PURSUANT
TO CHAPTER 69 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
FORT COLLINS
WHEREAS, on March 28, 1984, the Cultural Resources Board of the City
of Fort Collins held a public hearing concerning the proposed local His-
toric Landmark designation of the Laurel Street School (330 East Laurel )
within the City of Fort Collins; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to said hearing, the Cultural Resources Board
affirmatively recommends to the City Council of the City of Fort Collins
that the Laurel Street School (330 East Laurel ) be designated as a Historic
Landmark pursuant to Chapter 69 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins;
and
WHEREAS, such Landmark would be designated for the following purposes:
1. To encourage public knowledge and appreciation of the architec-
tural heritage that contributed to the history of Fort Collins and
its surroundings. The structure represents the work of a note-
worthy architect, Montezuma Fuller.
2. To encourage public knowledge and appreciation of the historical
significance of the structure. The structure was built in 1907
and has been used as a school since that date. The structure is
now used as Centennial High School .
3. To promote the public welfare by strengthening the cultural and
educational life of the City.
4. To prevent misguided improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
COLLINS as follows:
Section 1. That that certain property more particularly described as
follows:
The original Laurel Street School building situated
on Lots 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19 and 20 of Block 146 of
the City of Fort Collins, County of Larimer, State of
Colorado, also known as 330 East Laurel Street.
The designation is requested for the original structure
only, not the adjacent building located on the east side
of the original structure.
be, and it hereby is, designated as a Historic Landmark pursuant to Chapter
69 of the Code of the City of Fort Collins.
Section 2. That said property shall be known as the Laurel Street
School .
Section 3. That this designation shall take effect at such time as a
certified copy of this Ordinance has been recorded in the Office of the
Clerk and Recorder of Larimer County.
Introduced, considered favorably on first reading, and ordered pub-
lished this 1st day of May, A.D. 1984, and to be presented for final
passage on the 15th day of May, A.D. 1984.
